[ROUND 13] 3 consecutive defeats for AFC Tubize
AFC Tubize took on Royal Antwerp away on Oct 30th at 12:30 PM(LT) and lost the match 0-2.
They came out with a traditional 4-2-3-1 formation with Quentin Beaunardeu at GK. For the defense, injury returnee Quentin Laurent and Alassane Toure at CB, Alan Pires and Salomon Nirisarike, who filled in for suspended regular starter Emeric Dudouit, at FB. In front of them as the two sitting midfielders came in Ibrahima Ba and Yohan Betsch, at attacking midfield Mario Babic and at the wings Simon Zenke and Sega Keita. Mamadou Diallo started up top.
The first chance of the game was taken by Mamadou Diallo. He was put through on goal but put the ball wide of the goal. However, from that point on, Antwerp continued to pour on attack after attack utilizing counter attacks. Mario Babic had two free-kick chances 3 minutes apart near the end of the half, but a save by the goalkeeper denied his better effort.
It was a rough game with both teams receiving lots of cautions handed out by at halftime, a preview of what the second half was going to bring.
As soon as the second half started, Antwerp took control of the match. It only took them 7 minutes to break the AFC Tubize defense through a corner kick. A quickly taken corner kick was crossed to the back post for Antwerp’s #19 William Owusu, who rose above Megan Laurent and nodded the ball in. AFC Tubize didn’t seem to be able to deal with Antwerp’s attacking plan after the restart. They allowed multiple chances and nervy moments.
AFC Tubize looked for a change as Megan Laurent and Levan Shengelia came on for Mario Babick and Simon Zenke. However, AFC Tubize conceded once more in the 72nd minute, when William Owusu got in one on one with the goalkeeper and calmly finished the chance. Megan Laurent drove the ball forward, but lost the ball and nobody covered back when a ball over the top was played. It was a mental lapse for the defense and Antwerp took advantage.
Kevin Lefaix was brought in for Alan Pires for another attacking option to try and save a point. It showed to immediate effect, as Mamadou Diallo had a brilliant chance but he put the shot just wide. Levan Shengelia put in a good ball in the 83rd minute but no one was able to get on the end of the cross. AFC Tubize seemed spent at the end of the match due to them defending almost throughout the whole match.
The match ended 0-2 to the hosts and AFC Tubize suffered their 3rd consecutive defeat. This defeat drops them to 6th in the table with only two points separating them and last place Lommel United.
They will look so solve their injury woes and try and bring up the squad until the next match which is the last game of the first half of the season. AFC Tubize will host Cercle Brugge on Nov 6th, at 04:00 PM(LT).
