AFC Tubize took on league leaders Lierse S.K. in Round 12 of Proximus League B, but lost the match 1-3.

Due to an injury to starting LB Alan Pires, Coach Régis Brouard came out with a new 3-2-4-1 formation with Emeric Dudouit, Alassané Toure and Salomon Nirisarike starting as the 3 CBs. Yohan Betsch and Ibrahima Ba started as the defensive midfielders with Mario Babic and Megan Laurent in front of them. Simon Zenke was on the left as he started his first league match with AFC Tubize and Sega Keita was placed on the right. Mamadou Diallo was the lone striker to start the match. Quentin Beunardeau started in GK.

It wasn’t a good start for AFC Tubize however, as they conceded yet another early goal in the 7th minute, when Lierse crossed in from the right side and their #9 Dylan De Belder scored a cheeky chip goal over Quentin Beunardeau after controlling the ball past Alassané Toure. Lierse scored in the 23rd minute through their lively winger Manuel Benson, who tortured the defense throughout the whole game. He cut in on Salomon Nirisarike and finished with a placed shot to the far post making it 0-2 to the visitors. AFC Tubize almost conceded right away but Quentin Beunardeau made a brilliant save to deny a header after a well-played corner kick from Lierse.

The two teams exchanged chances to score, with Dylan De Belder denied by Quentin Beunardeau after he was through and Mario Babic missing a good chance right before half time.

After the break, AFC Tubize changed to a 4-2-3-1 formation with Ibrahima Ba dropping back to CB with Salomon Nirisarike and Emeric Dudouit pushing out to the full back positions. The change showed right off the bat as AFC Tubize piled on the pressure from the whistle. They scored in the 46th minute but it was ruled out for an offside, which makes it the 3rd consecutive match with a goal ruled out by an offside call. However, 7 minutes later, Salomon nodded on Mario Babic’s corner towards goal and it deflected off Lierse’s #10 Anas Tahiri for an own goal.

In the 63rd minute, Ibrahima Ba fouled Dylan De Belder in the box and was booked in the process. Dylan De Belder stepped up and slotted the penalty home, sending Quentin Beunardeau the wrong way, making it 1-3 to the visitors. Kevin Lefaix came on for Megan Laurent in the 74th minute but it didn’t make much of a difference as the match ended 1-3.

With the loss, AFC Tubize now sit in 5th place with 14 points but could potentially slip down to 6th if Union Saint-Gilloise manage to win their match today. But with the league being so wide open, AFC Tubize have enough time to try and climb up the table for a promotion push.

Their next match will be away at Royal Antwerp FC on Oct 30th, at 12:30 PM(LT).
